Imphal: Two goods-laden trucks were fired upon and set afire on the National Highway 37 under the Tousem subdivision of Tamenglong district in Manipur on Wednesday morning.
The trucks plying towards Longmai, Noney, and Tamenglong Districts from Silchar Assam via Jiribam district headquarters were attacked with guns and torched by suspected militants.

The incident took place in between Langhnon and Old Khaiphundai villages on the NH-37 at around 6 am on Wednesday.
The trucks transporting essential commodities, including rice, onions and potatoes, were reportedly set ablaze after they were fired upon and halted by alleged militants.
The vehicles were plying towards Tamenglong and Noney district headquarters without escort vehicles.

However, during the attacks, the occupants of the vehicles escaped unhurt.
The torching of the goods-laden truck came at a time when the state had been facing artificial scarcity of imported items including onion, and potatoes.
The police said that they have begun an investigation into the incident.
