Manipur drug arrest

Imphal: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles arrested two alleged drug peddlers and smugglers in separate operations, recovering contraband items worth over Rs 40 crores, officials reported on Saturday.

Manipur Police, on Friday, arrested Singamayum Mohammad (28), a resident of Konuma Makha Leikai, Laphupat Tera, Imphal West district, near Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou, under Keibul Lamjao Police Station, Bishnupur district.

From his possession, authorities recovered 102 grams of heroin no. 4. In addition, a mobile phone with one SIM card and a two-wheeler Honda Activa were also seized.

Based on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, conducted another anti-narcotics operation in Jiribam.

During this joint operation, 1,60,000 Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 40 crores were seized from a truck driven by an alleged smuggler, later identified as Ilaj Ali (29), a resident of Assam’s Cachar district.

The seized contraband and the apprehended person were handed over to Jiribam Police for further investigation.
