Imphal: A team of the Special Commandos of the Manipur police on Friday busted an alleged insurgent group accused of being involved in extortion activities targeting government officials and businessmen in Imphal East.
Police sources on Saturday said that the two suspects were apprehended near the gate of the Royal Palace in Imphal East district.

The Special Commandos had inputs of suspected Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) cadres of extorting money from the non-local traders.
Based on the inputs, they raided at Pureiromba Khongnangmakhong, near the Palace Gate in Imphal East District on Friday night.
Two suspected cadres of the KCP-PWG later identified as Mutum Inao Singh (31) and Khwairakpam Rajen Singh (25) were arrested during this raid.

The police also recovered a two-wheeler, Rs 7, 600 in cash and a sling bag.
Digital devices, including two mobile phones, SIM cards, pen drives, and DVRs documents, including two ID cards were also seized from them.
The police report stated that they were involved in extortion from the general public and other prejudicial activities.
The operation was conducted following an intelligence report that a group of insurgents was planning anti-social activities, including extortion drives from non-locals and attacks on security forces with the use of explosives.
The police added that the arrested persons were booked under the relevant Act and later handed over to the Imphal East district police along with the confiscated items.
