Imphal: A road accident at Kha Naorem Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal West on the morning of September 16 claimed the lives of a woman and her daughter-in-law.
The accident occurred along National Highway 102 (NH-102), under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station.
The victims were identified as 75-year-old Kharibam Bino, wife of Kh Ibocha, and her 33-year-old daughter-in-law, Kharibam Sophia, wife of Premjit.
Officials said the two women were returning home from a morning walk when a speeding Maruti 800 travelling from south to north hit them from behind. Both women suffered critical injuries.
Law enforcement sources said Bino was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Sophia later died from her injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police deposited both bodies at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary for autopsy.
A case has also been registered at Singjamei police station to investigate the accident.
