Manipur: Two arrested for circulating hoax video

Imphal: The Cyber Crime branch of the Manipur police arrested two youths on a charge of uploading a hoax video on social media that went viral in the state, the police said on Wednesday.

Based on reports from various quarters, the Social Medial Monitoring Cell of the Cyber Crime Unit of the police headquarters detected the origin of the fake news story uploaded on social media.

In a comprehensive and coordinated manner, the officials of the Moirang police station and Cybercrime police unit arrested two suspects.

The duo allegedly claimed that they were assaulted and that the 500 chicks they were transporting had been confiscated by some unknown persons who wore black clothes.

According to the video, the incident allegedly happened at Phubala at around 6.30 pm on November 4.

The police said that upon inquiry, it was found that the incident was a fake and fabricated story.

During further investigation, one Iphamayum Ramijuddin (30) from Kwakta, Ward No 8 of Bishnupur district, admitted to creating the misinformation story.

It was further reported that the video was recorded and uploaded by his friend, Heibokmayum Thoiba (29), also from Kwakta.

Both individuals were arrested on Tuesday for necessary legal action, the police added.
