Guwahati: A truck carrying tin sheets and bed covers from Assam plunged into a water body on Sunday morning after the iron bridge it was crossing collapsed in Imphal West district, Manipur.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am at Kanton Khullen village, roughly 20 kilometres from Imphal.

The driver, identified as Abdul Ali, 34, from Nalbari district, Assam, along with two passengers, Molidul Islam, 38, and Sahidur Islam, 22, also from Assam, were all injured.

They were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal for treatment.

The truck, which was travelling on NH 102 from Awangsekmai towards Leimakhong army camp, fell into the Leimakhong River when the bridge gave way.

The cause of the bridge collapse remains under investigation by officials.
