Imphal: In a major crackdown, security forces arrested three active insurgents from different groups and recovered a massive cache of arms and ammunition across Manipur’s valley districts within a span of 36 hours, officials reported on Sunday.
In the first operation, security forces apprehended an active extortionist cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front, the political wing of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA).
The suspect, identified as Angom Premjit Singh (28), alias Frewish alias Manaothoi, was arrested from his residence at Phayeng Ching Khunou, under Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West district.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front Pambei (UNLF-P), identified as Md. Azad Khan (46), a resident of Borayangbi Thongkha, Bishnupur district.
He was detained for his involvement in the illegal arms trade. He was intercepted near Sangaiprou FCI Road, under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district, along with a Tata Safari DiCOR vehicle (Registration No. MN-04A-4696).
A third insurgent, belonging to the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), was arrested during a sweep in the Khomidok Umang Leikai area.
He was identified as Buyamayum Pingku (27), a resident of Khomidok Masjid Maning, under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district.
Additionally, in an ongoing effort to demilitarise the region, security forces recovered a large quantity of weaponry from the foothills of the Tentha Samuching area, under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.
The recovered items included one SMG carbine with a magazine and five bolt-action rifles.
