Imphal: Three insurgent cadres of different underground groups were arrested along with various documents, including demand letters of a Naga underground outfit, in multiple operations in Manipur’s Imphal valley, the police reported on Saturday.
Security forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front, the political wing of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), from the Nagaram area under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West district, on Thursday.
Security forces found Wahengbam Bimal Meitei, also known as Luwang and Mani, 26, a resident of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai and Lane No. 5, Sangaiprou Mamang Makha Leikai, Imphal West district, in possession of several illegal items.
The police reported that from his possession, authorities seized an envelope containing ten demand letters of the “Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim” (GPRN), three mobile handsets, one pocket diary, one Aadhaar card, and one white Maruti Alto car.
Officials stated that the GPRN refers to the political aspirations and governing body of the Naga separatist movement, led by groups like the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), seeking an independent sovereign Nagalim (Greater Nagaland) comprising Naga-inhabited areas in India and Myanmar.
Prominent figures like Thuingaleng Muivah (NSCN-IM) lead the charge for this separate nation, distinct from Indiaโs Nagaland state government.
In another operation, the Manipur Police arrested Nandeibam Rosen Meitei, 36, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) from Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Imphal East district. The police also seized a mobile phone from him.
During a separate operation, security forces arrested Thoudam Nanaobi, 50, also known as Ishingchaoba or Naobicha, an extortionist of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), from the Lamboikhongnangkhong area under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West district.
The police seized a mobile phone from him.
