Imphal: The Manipur government has transferred the Thanlon Tribal Development Block from Pherzawl district back to Churachandpur district, restoring its administrative jurisdiction to the latter.
The order, issued in the name of the Governor of Manipur, was published on Wednesday in the Manipur Gazette Extraordinary No. 246.
According to the notification, the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department initiated the transfer to align the block’s jurisdiction with an earlier revenue reorganisation that brought Thanlon Sub-Division back under Churachandpur district.
Under the new directive, all government offices, public establishments and rural development schemes operating within the block will now come under the Churachandpur district administration.
The decision brings an end to an administrative arrangement that had been in place since 2016, when the erstwhile Churachandpur district was divided.
The order was signed by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Secretary Sunanda Thokchom after receiving approval from the competent authority. The notification was digitally verified by Ngangbam Roben Singh.
Local officials expect the transfer to simplify administrative coordination and improve access to government services for residents of remote hill villages.
The realignment is also expected to bring the block’s administrative operations in line with the district boundaries established under the earlier revenue reorganisation.
Churachandpur, one of Manipur’s major Kuki-dominated districts, has a population of more than five lakh, according to the information provided.
