Imphal: The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) has condemned the alleged abduction, sexual assault and murder of a woman on a road in Manipur’s Kamjong district, which borders Myanmar.
In a press statement issued from Churachandpur district, the organisation accused cadres of the NSCN-IM of committing the crime.
The organisation said the woman’s naked and severely mutilated body bore signs of extreme physical and sexual violence.
KWOHR described the incident as a deliberate act of brutality rather than an isolated crime. It said the violence showed a disregard for human life and moral values.
The organisation also said the desecration of a woman’s body violated the dignity of all women and humanity.
The rights group alleged that Kuki women had faced repeated atrocities in areas dominated by the NSCN-IM, with those responsible escaping punishment. It urged citizens to speak out against such violence to help prevent similar incidents.
The organisation also called on the government to prioritise women’s safety, particularly in remote border areas where vulnerable communities live.
KWOHR called on state and central authorities to order an immediate and impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), arrest those responsible and ensure they receive appropriate punishment.
It also urged the Government of India and the Manipur government to provide adequate security to Kuki villages in Kamjong and Ukhrul districts.
The organisation further demanded compensation and rehabilitation for the victim’s family and called for justice. It appealed to civil society groups, women’s commissions and human rights bodies to support the family.
KWOHR expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its support for victims of sexual violence, adding that silence should not be seen as acceptance.
