Imphal: A 56-year-old man suspected to be an illegal gun trader was arrested by a joint team of the central and state forces in the search and area domination operation in a vulnerable spot in Senapati, Manipur.

A four-wheeler and packets of cartridges have been recovered in the operation, a police report said on Friday.

Based on input, the joint team of the central and state forces was on high alert and managed to arrest the suspected gun trader later identified as Lungjanang Thiumai (56) a tribal and a resident of the Senapati district of Manipur.

The arrest and seizure were conducted at the T Khullen Check post of Senapati district.

Nine packets of 4.8 mm Pellets Single Barrel Breech Loading shotgun Plastic cartridges and one four-wheeler vehicle were recovered in the operation that lasted around half an hour, the report added. A case has been registered in this regard.

He was later handed over to the Senapati district police station where he along with the confiscated times paraded for photographs.

The report added that the arrested individual along with the impounded vehicle is now in the custody of the Senapati police station for further police investigations.
