Manipur smuggling

Imphal: Indian security forces in Manipur uncovered a cross-border smuggling racket, recovering approximately 6,477 bottles of illegal liquor and 400 cigarette packets, and arresting two associates of foreign-based smugglers.

In a series of operations conducted at the T. Bungmol Junction under Moreh police station in Manipurโ€™s Tengnoupal district, two smugglers were arrested on Friday, according to official reports issued on Monday.

The arrested individuals are Thangjamang Haokip (26), a resident of Yangoubung Village, Moreh, and Haumuanlal Zou (35), a resident of Lhanghoi Village, Tengnoupal.

A two-wheeler used for transporting the illicit articles was also impounded.

A total of 6,477 foreign-made liquor bottles of different brands were confiscated.

This includes 6,140 full bottles, 145 half bottles, and 192 quarter bottles of liquor.

In addition, two cartons of foreign-manufactured cigarettes, totaling 400 packets, were also seized.
