Imphal: In a series of operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and civil police averted potential tragedies by detecting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the Indo-Myanmar border and arresting an extortionist and drug smugglers on Sunday, officials reported on Monday.
Based on intelligence inputs indicating the presence of anti-social elements, the joint team, along with a sniffer dog, conducted an operation at a vulnerable location near Border Pillar 73 under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
The joint forces recovered six 9 mm pistols, six 9 mm magazines, one single-barrel rifle, 15 IEDs, and two tactical radio sets. The recovered IEDs were destroyed in situ, the reports stated.
In a second operation, an extortionist cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), Maibam Pingku Singh (42) of Chingamathak Pishum Leirak, was captured in the Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai area under Singjamei police station, Imphal West district.
A mobile phone, an Elector Photo Identity card, and a sum of Rs. 100 were seized from him, the report stated.
In a third operation, Sehkholien (52) of Saikulphai village, Jiribam, was apprehended from a stretch between Chhotobekra and Latingkhal under Jiribam police station, Jiribam district.
From his possession, five plastic bags containing around 5.2 kg of ganja and a TVS NTORQ two-wheeler (Regd. No. AS 11X-9252) were recovered.
Additionally, the team arrested two drug smugglers,Paumuanlian Tungnung (23) of Vaal Veng, Churachandpur, and Lianminthang Neihsial (26) of Nazareth village, Saikot, Churachandpurโalong with 207 soap cases of heroin.
Finally, in the past week, Manipur Police issued 112 challans to motor vehicle offenders, amounting to a total of Rs. 179,500, and removed tinted films from six vehicles, the reports added.
