Imphal: Three suspected cadres of two proscribed underground groups were arrested at different hideouts in separate operations under the Chassad Police Station along the eastern part of the Manipur-Myanmar border.

Officials said that based on specific input about United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) cadres crossing Manipur’s Kamjong district from Myanmar, Indian security forces taking vigils at the borders undertook operations.

The operations were successful with the arrests of two active cadres of UNLF (K) and one active cadre of KCP from different locations in Kamjong District.

A case has been registered at Chassad Police Station in this regard for further investigation, the statement said.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense with sporadic incidents of firing but under control, the police statement said.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

A total of 141 checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley.
