Imphal: The Manipur government on Monday relaunched a major road development project with an outlay of Rs 74.22 crore to expedite repair and construction works on the Mayai Lambi road (NH-137A).
Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh flagged off work on the ImphalโKakching Lamkhai section of the highway at Langthabal in Imphal West district. The project is funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and is being executed by the Public Works Department of the State government. It is scheduled for completion by April 2026.
Addressing the event, the Chief Minister said the initiative formed part of the governmentโs broader efforts to restore and strengthen infrastructure damaged during recent crises. In a post on X, he said he had flagged off the strengthening of the existing pavement on NH-137A in the presence of senior BJP leaders, Ministers and NDA MLAs.
The project involves blacktopping a 10-km stretch of the dilapidated road and carrying out urgent repairs from Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai to Kakching Lamkhai. Earlier plans had included blacktopping the remaining 10 km of the 17-km stretch connecting Sekmaijin and Nongmaikhong.
Officials said the works aim to restore connectivity, reduce travel time and improve road safety. The project also ??????????????? the construction of a gate near the Lainingthou Sanamahi complex and a bridge over the Manipur River to link Sekmaijin with Komlakhong.
This is the first road infrastructure project taken up by the newly formed BJP-led government since Singh assumed office as the Stateโs 13th Chief Minister on February 4, 2026. The relaunch follows repeated concerns raised by local organisations over delays, incomplete stretches and the quality of construction, which had earlier prompted threats of road blockades.
