Manipur: Rs 10 lakh worth of goods destroyed in house fire

Imphal: Properties worth approximately Rs 10 lakhs were destroyed in a devastating fire that gutted a semi-pucca house constructed at the foothills of Sanjenbam Kiyong Lainingkol Baruniching under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district, Manipur.

After getting an emergency message on a mobile handset and WhatsApp, a team of firefighters from the state fire service department, Imphal East district police, and Aranbai Tenggol, a socio-cultural organization rushed to the spot.

However, the fire had already engulfed the semi-pucca house with tin roofing on Monday afternoon. The joint team managed to douse the fire on the charred items by using a water bowser, fire-fighting equipment, and a fire tender.

The house belonged to one Telem Bhogen Meitei (50).

TB Meitei said that the fire destroyed an iron Godrej cabinet containing Rs 2.5 lakh, along with three wooden almirahs, four beds, three gas cylinders, and various clothing items.

A short circuit may be the cause of the fire, officials said. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

After assessing the losses in the deadly fire, the fire services stated that over 10 lakhs of rupees were lost in the tragedy.
