Manipur: Two trucks fired upon and set ablaze in Tamenglong

Imphal: The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur (RNSOM), has declared a total boycott of all supplies to the Kukis residing in Tamenglong and Noney Districts.

The declaration came after two goods-laden vehicles bound for Tamenglong and Noney district headquarters were allegedly fired upon and set ablaze by suspected militants on the NH-37 on Wednesday morning.

Jeanthui Panmei, General Secretary of the RNSOM in a statement condemned the acts of the armed persons destroying the goods-laden vehicles and its imported items.

The statement also read that these trucks were transporting essential commodities, including rice, onions, and potatoes, to Longmai, Noney, and Tamenglong Districts inhabited by the Nagas.

Wednesday’s attacks marked the second such incident targeting vehicles along NH-37, following the Kaimai incident, and represent a deliberate attempt to undermine the existence of Rongmei people within their jurisdiction, the statement stated.

In response to these acts of terrorism and the absence of any other recourse, the RNSOM declared a total boycott of all supplies to the Kukis in Tamenglong and Noney Districts, effective immediately, until further notice.

The Rorngmei Naga people had also consistently appealed to the Jiribam Police to allow all vehicles loaded and unloaded to make free movements along NH-37 (24/7) between Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney Districts even without security escorts, as the entire stretch of NH-37 falls under Rongmei Naga territorial jurisdiction.
