Imphal: Despite ongoing unrest in Manipur, the Central Government has allocated essential civil supplies under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to the strife-torn state.

On Saturday, a 15-coach train carrying 18,000 rice bags arrived at the Khongsang Railway Station, approximately 95 km from Imphal.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) facilitated the transportation under the aegis of the Northeast Frontier Railways (NF Railways).

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh received the consignment at a function held at the station.
He acknowledged the importance of uninterrupted civil supplies, particularly during this challenging time.

“This is a welcome move. Of course, civil supplies and FCI are a big issue in the state. So uninterrupted civil supplies are needed,” said the state chief minister.
These tonnes of rice bags arrived on the goods train and the transportation of these items would be made from Khongsang railway station to Imphal on the NH 37 connecting Imphal to Silchar via Jiribam.
This, in turn, can make construction materials more affordable, potentially aiding infrastructure development across the state.
