Imphal: The Manipur Police Department has initiated an investigation into recent incidents of civilian killings and arson across the state, according to an official statement issued by the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday.

Security forces have launched coordinated cordon-and-search operations in all affected areas to apprehend those involved.

The DGP’s office confirmed that state police are working with the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the CRPF, the Border Security Force (BSF), the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army to carry out the operations.

The state police are also working with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take necessary action against those involved in the crimes.

The DGP’s office stated that although the directive did not name specific incidents, efforts were underway to identify and question witnesses and suspects.

Senior security officials said the entire law enforcement apparatus was treating the matter seriously.

Security measures have been strengthened in vulnerable areas, while senior officers are closely monitoring the situation to maintain public order.

The head of the state police force appealed to citizens to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The DGP’s office said public cooperation was essential to restoring peace and preventing further violence.

The DGP also urged the public not to circulate unverified information, rumours or provocative content on social media. Authorities warned that such content could worsen the security situation.
