Imphal: Manipur Police commandos arrested three people and seized 580 litres of illicit local liquor along with two vehicles during a routine transit check at Langdum Lamkhai in the Keirao area early Thursday.
The arrested individuals, all residents of the Andro region, were apprehended by an Imphal East commando team after the illegal liquor was detected during routine vehicle inspections. The suspects and the seized consignment were subsequently handed over to the Porompat Excise Office for further legal proceedings.
The arrests were part of a wider enforcement drive targeting illegal gambling and the distribution of illicit liquor across multiple districts to maintain public order.
In separate operations across Imphal East, commando teams raided suspected illegal gambling locations and retail establishments. Searches conducted at Mantripukhri, Khabam and Thambalkhong led to the recovery of four sets of gambling dice. However, those allegedly operating the gambling activities fled before they could be arrested.
Another raid at Naharup Thongkhong resulted in the seizure of 40 litres of illicit local liquor from three establishments.
Meanwhile, the Imphal West District Police carried out a parallel crackdown on illegal gambling activities across several areas. The operation led to the seizure of 93 gambling dice and other gaming materials from various suspected gambling locations.
Police also conducted enforcement operations under the Nambol jurisdiction, detaining two individuals found in possession of three sets of gambling dice.
In a separate preventive operation in the same area, police detained eight more individuals and seized 30 litres of locally distilled liquor and 10 cans of commercial beer.
The coordinated operations form part of the ongoing police crackdown on illegal liquor distribution and gambling activities across Manipur.
