Manipur police have come up with an innovative way to punish bikers riding without helmets.
Manipur bikers found without helmets are now being forced by the cops to get down from their bikes and physically push their bikes for a distance.
After riding for a certain distance, the bikers are given toffees and counseled on the importance of wearing a helmet.
As per reports, the innovative way of road safety education of the Manipur police had started at Chuurachandpur district on Thursday.
Moreover, a cop who was found to be riding a bike without a helmet recently had to undergo the new form of punishment initiated by the Manipur police.
While counseling, if an offender is found to be in possession with a helmet, he/she is made to wear it and counseled about its importance and safety.
However, if a helmet is not found with an offender, he/she is also counseled politely.
The cops have come up with this way of educating bikers on the importance of wearing helmets as the traditional method of levying huge fines from them had not yet worked and many repeated offenders are still found to be riding bikes without helmets.
As per the new rule in the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2019, bikers riding without helmets are fined Rs 1000.
