Imphal: Manipur Police have busted a two-wheeler theft gang involved in multiple vehicle theft cases, arresting three persons from different locations in the Imphal area over the past four days, officials said on Thursday.
The action followed a series of complaints related to stolen two-wheelers. Special police teams traced the suspects, uncovered the gangโs network, and arrested those involved, police said.
During the second phase of the operation, police arrested two vehicle lifters from the Kanglapat area under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district on Wednesday.
The accused were identified as K. Robert (24) of Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district and Md. Tomba (24) of Yairipok Phouden in Thoubal district.
A red TVS Centra two-wheeler bearing registration number AS-01-AA-4095, which the duo had allegedly stolen earlier in the day from the Kakhulong area in Imphal city, was recovered from their possession at the spot.
Earlier, police had arrested Md. Sabir Khan, also known as Boboi (25), a resident of Lilong Turel Khul in Thoubal district, from Tribal Market, New Lambulane, under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. A stolen Royal Enfield motorcycle was recovered from him.
With these arrests, police recovered two stolen two-wheelers in Imphal city over the past four days. Officials said some members of the gang are still absconding.
Police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and take basic precautions to safeguard their vehicles.
They urged people to avoid parking vehicles unsecured outside their houses and to use only authorised parking areas.
Residents were also advised to install CCTV cameras in residential premises and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station.
