Imphal: Authorities in Manipur have partially relaxed curfew measures in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Thoubal districts following a reassessment of the law-and-order situation.

According to orders issued on Thursday, April 9, by the respective district magistrates, people will be allowed to move out between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., but only under strict safety regulations.

Movement outside this period remains completely barred, with restrictions continuing from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next day.

The easing of restrictions follows earlier prohibitory directions issued this week under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in connection with tensions triggered by the Tronglaobi incident.

Officials noted that the decision was taken after evaluating ground conditions while ensuring that public order remains stable.

Even with limited relaxation in place, strict controls continue. Grouping of five or more people in public areas is not permitted, and items such as sticks, stones, firearms, edged weapons, or explosive substances are strictly banned.

In Thoubal, similar conditions apply, along with a bar on unauthorised gatherings of four or more individuals even during permitted hours.

Authorities confirmed that critical public services will continue without interruption. This includes policing units, emergency response systems, banking operations, and judicial services.

Activities linked to healthcare, essential utilities, press duties, and aviation movement are also allowed during relaxation hours, and in some cases, beyond them in specific districts.

Officials also said that the revised restrictions will stay in effect until further notice, adding that vigilance will be maintained to ensure the situation does not worsen.
