Imphal: Manipur police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of a 76-year-old woman inside her bedroom at Singjamei Oinam Thingel in Imphal West district on Tuesday, officials reported on Thursday.
According to the police morning bulletin issued on Thursday, following an investigation into the murder of Oinam Thoibi Devi, also known as Ibendhou (76), police arrested her nephew.
The arrestee, later identified as Surendrajit Oinam (23), has reportedly confessed to committing the crime. Sources said Surendrajit was closely associated with the deceased.
He was produced before a Duty Magistrate on Friday and remanded in police custody until January 30.
The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted at the RIMS morgue in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, with full video coverage.
A Joint Action Committee Against Brutal Killing of Oinam (Ningol) Thoibi alias Pishakcha has reportedly claimed the body.
The police further stated that the investigation is ongoing, and all efforts are being made to determine the involvement of any other accomplices and bring them to justice.
