Imphal: Several Naga organizations have strongly condemned the shooting and injury of a Naga farmer by suspected Kuki assailants in Manipur‘s Imphal East district.

In response, they have announced an indefinite blockade on the Ukhrul-Imphal road, effective from midnight of November 11.

The organizations, including the Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union, Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association (TNVSA), and Naga Shanao Long Yaingangpokpi Area (NSLYA), have vehemently denounced the gun attack on 32-year-old Kanshok Horam, a Tangkhul farmer from New Canaan village in Churachandpur district.

Horam was shot while working in his paddy field at Yaingangpokpi Santi-Khongbal in Imphal East district around 9 AM on Monday.

In separate statements, the organizations described the attack as a “senseless act of violence” against an innocent farmer. They highlighted the potential for such violence to disrupt the peaceful coexistence of communities in the region.

The organizations appealed to all parties involved to cease actions that could jeopardize peace. They urged the public to stand united against violence and called on law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to implement strict measures to ensure public safety and prevent future incidents.

Expressing sympathy for the injured farmer, the organizations pledged their support for his recovery.
