Imphal: At least 11 armed Kuki militants and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were killed in a fierce gun battle that erupted on Monday in Manipur‘s Jiribam district.

The encounter took place in an area under the jurisdiction of Borobekra police station in the Borobekra Sub-Division of Jiribam district.

The Manipur government imposed an indefinite curfew in the entire Jiribam district, effective immediately. The decision was taken to prevent potential disturbances and maintain law and order.

Jiribam District Magistrate Krishna Kumar issued an official notification stating that the Superintendent of Police had expressed concerns about potential widespread unrest and danger to life and property due to the activities of anti-social elements.

The curfew order prohibits individuals from carrying firearms, swords, sticks, stones, or any other objects that could be used as weapons. However, government agencies, security forces, and essential services personnel are exempted from the restrictions.

Individuals seeking permission to hold processions for marriages, funerals, or other urgent matters must obtain written approval from the Superintendent of Police.

The notification emphasizes the urgency of the situation and states that the order was issued under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023. Any violation of the curfew will be punishable under relevant laws.

The Superintendent of Police, in coordination with security forces, will be responsible for enforcing the curfew to maintain peace and order in the district.
