Imphal: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to strengthen security along state highways and ensure the safety of commuters and transporters following a deadly gunfight in Noney district.
In a formal appeal, the organisation called for a comprehensive and sustained security strategy to restore public confidence and prevent further casualties.
The demand comes in the wake of an October 31 gunfight at Tazeikaiphun village in Noney district, which has triggered concerns among residents and commuters, particularly those travelling along National Highway 37 (NH-37).
MNYO expressed concern over alleged threats circulating on social media, reportedly issued by unidentified Kuki elements and warning of attacks on vehicles. The organisation claimed that similar threats had preceded incidents of indiscriminate firing by armed militants in the past.
It urged the police department to deploy additional security personnel, establish more outposts and intensify patrolling along NH-37 and the Bishnupur-Tupul Road, with particular attention to vulnerable stretches.
Meanwhile, Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh visited the Manipur Police Training College on November 3 to assess its infrastructure and training facilities.
During the visit, he reviewed the existing facilities and identified areas requiring upgrades to strengthen the police department’s long-term operational preparedness.
