Manipur education, labour & employment minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam on Tuesday reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the districts of Thoubal and Kakching.

The meeting on the situation, actions being taken and preparedness for management to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Thoubal and Kakching were held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office of Thoubal.

The minister who is also the district in-charge of Thoubal and Kakching chairing the meeting appreciated the dedication of all the district administrations officers who are carrying out their duty in containing the spread of COVID-19 in both the districts.

The meeting was attended by the officials of both the districts – district nodal officer T Ranjit Singh, deputy commissioners N Bandana Devi of Thoubal, Valentina Arambam of Kakching; superintendents of police Victoria Yengkhom of Thoubal, Dr S Ibomcha Singh Kakching; chief medical officers Dr N Jayantakumar Singh, Dr T Manihar Singh, and officials concerned.

The meeting discussed about the steps and precautionary measures needed to be taken up to overcome the challenges and problems against COVID-19 in the coming days.

Stressing that preparations for health infrastructure need to be ramped up to ensure preparedness for any situation that can arise, Dr Radheshyam stated that so far there has been no case of community transmission in the state.

To enable to handle any challenges in these unprecedented times, he said that all available resources need to be utilized. The meeting also discussed on how schools or any institutional building, either private or government, can be identified to set up more quarantine centres and manpower can be mobilized through state government.

The minister also emphasized on the need for creating awareness on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the state Home Department especially at the quarantine centres and the common public.

He expressed that Thoubal district as one of the centres where certain cases are handled from the neighbouring districts especially, Chandel, Kamjong and Kakching because of the lack of medical infrastructure at the respective districts.

During the meeting, the minister was apprised about the total number of returnees, prevailing conditions and number of quarantine centres and the need for revamping infrastructure of health sectors in the respective districts.
