Imphal: The Manipur Police arrested Bachaspatimayum Rohit Sharma (24), a resident of Thoubal Leishangthem Wangmataba in Thoubal district, on charges of sexually assaulting a minor at a secluded place in Imphal West district, officials reported on Friday.
A team from the Lamphel police station in Imphal West district apprehended Sharma, son of Ibohal, on February 17, 2026, following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother at the same station.
The complainant stated that her daughter went missing from their rented house in the Lamphel area on the night of February 16. The following morning, around 6 am, the minor was found loitering on Governor Road in Imphal city.
Upon being questioned by her mother, the victim disclosed that she had gone to an unknown restaurant with the accused, where he sexually assaulted her. She was later abandoned at a location in Khwairamband Bazar.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police reported that the accused was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, on February 18, 2026. During the investigation, the arrestee admitted to the charges leveled against him, according to a submission made to the court.
He has been remanded in judicial custody until February 23. The Court also directed the Investigating Officer to produce the accused before the Special POCSO Court, Imphal West, upon the completion of the remand period.
