Imphal: Manipur Police arrested an active extortionist cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a series of anti-insurgency operations conducted across two districts on Friday.
The accused, identified as Mayanglambam Tomba Singh alias Lakpa (39), a resident of Churachandpur Bijang Khunou currently staying at the Phubala Relief Camp, was apprehended at the Tera Urak Checkpoint under Bishnupur Police Station in Bishnupur district.
Police recovered one 9mm pistol with a magazine and 11 live rounds of ammunition of varying calibres from his possession.
Investigators stated that the arrested cadre was allegedly involved in the bomb explosion at the MS Elidas Fuel Station on Moirang-Kumbi Road at Moirang Thana Leikai on January 8, 2026.
Following his disclosure, a second operation was launched near the Sangaithel Park area under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district.
During the operation, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and tactical gear, including eight pistols with magazines, four rifles, three hand grenades, three detonators, assorted live rounds and empty cases, magazines, and military fatigues comprising bulletproof jackets, magazine pouches and wireless communication sets.
Police added that the arrested individual and the seized items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
