Imphal: Central and state security forces in Manipur, during a series of operations conducted at various locations, arrested an insurgent and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition on Saturday.
Police reported on Sunday that a cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba), identified as Thiyam Inao Singh (33) of Kumbi Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district, was arrested from a rented house in Langol Game Village Zone-II under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district.
The insurgent was apprehended along with two No. 36 high-explosive hand grenades, two detonators, 15 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and an ID card.
Following the arrest, a second phase of operations was conducted at Awa Ching and the adjoining foothill area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
During the operation, security personnel recovered one 7.62 SLR rifle with a magazine, one SMG carbine with a magazine, a Chinese hand grenade with a detonator, two M16 rifle magazines, 50 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres, a radio wireless set with two chargers, and a telescope.
The arrested cadre, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings, the report added.
