Imphal: The Manipur police arrested a suspected cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) in Imphal for being involved in the assault case of two persons from the Senapati district.

Police took measures after several Frontal Organizations spearheaded by the United Naga Council (UNC) demanded the Manipur government deliver justice in connection with the alleged beating of the two within 48 hours.

Manipur Police arrested Senjam Suraj Meitei (25) for being involved in the assault.

The police said that the arrest was made in the early hours of Thursday in the Lamsang area in the Imphal West district.

A case has already been registered and interrogation of the arrestee is underway.

The apex Naga body UNC and several outfits including the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur, Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), and Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA) had condemned the assault on the Naga tribesmen.

V Hrangao Blesson Poumai, and Dalou Poumai, both residents of the Senapati district were forcefully detained by alleged members of Arambai Tengol, a social-cultural outfit of the Meities at approximately 3 am on October 31, 2024, in Lamshang, Imphal.

A statement issued by the NPO stated that the incident occurred while they were returning from a livestock purchase in Thoubal.

On the way, they were detained and subjected to severe physical assault, resulting in multiple injuries.
