Imphal: Under the directives from the governments at the Centre and state, the District Level Officers (DLOs) in Manipur’s Kamjong have agreed to voluntarily adopt tuberculosis (TB) patients to provide crucial nutritional support, contributing Rs 1,000 per month per patient.
Kamjong district of Manipur shares borders with Myanmar to the southeast.
The decision was finalized during a review meeting chaired by Kamjong Deputy Commissioner (DC) L.N. Kashung at his Imphal camp office on Tuesday.
Under the initiative, aligned with the central government’s Nikshay Mitra campaign under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, participating officers will contribute Rs 1,000 per month per patient for six months.
DC Kashung and several other officers immediately pledged to adopt one patient each following the resolution.
The high-level meeting, attended by Additional DC H.L. Jain, Sub-Divisional Officers from Kamjong, Phungyar, Sahamphung, and Kasom Khullen, alongside various department heads, evaluated the district’s progress toward eliminating TB.
Attendees discussed localized implementation hurdles, including infrastructural deficits and human resource shortages.
DC Kashung called for intensified screening and diagnostic testing across the district to identify undetected infections. Beyond healthcare, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed ongoing developmental and welfare schemes across various sectors.
Addressing the Vibrant Villages Programme-II, Kashung directed DLOs to identify specific, relevant work programs tailored for the 54 border villages selected under the scheme.
The forum also highlighted the necessity of conducting awareness campaigns to ensure villagers understand and avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.
The session concluded with the DC reviewing departmental grievances and project delays, followed by a thorough discussion on necessary redressal measures to accelerate rural development.
