Imphal: A joint team of Chassad Police Station personnel and local Naga women seized 30 litres of illicit distilled indigenous country (DIC) liquor during an operation in Manipur’s Kamjong district, officials said.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs from local women’s groups regarding the transportation of illicit liquor in the border district, which shares an international boundary with Myanmar.
During vehicle checks, the team intercepted a Tata truck and arrested its driver, identified as 45-year-old Rafikuddin, son of Habibur Rahman. He is a resident of Kanakpur Part-I in Binnakandi, Cachar district of Assam.
Following the seizure, police disposed of the confiscated liquor in the presence of local women. The 30 litres of DIC liquor were destroyed near the gate of Chassad Police Station as part of the authorities’ action against the illegal liquor trade.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested driver, while further investigation into the alleged transportation of illicit liquor is underway.
