Imphal: The Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Working Committee of Kamjong district on Sunday called off its economic blockade, effective from 12 noon, following assurances from the district administration regarding the grievances raised by the local Kuki community.
The committee had earlier issued a 36-hour ultimatum to the Kamjong district administration and the Manipur government, seeking immediate action on the community’s concerns. After the demands were not addressed within the stipulated period, the committee began the economic blockade at 12 noon on September 16, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the committee, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Kamjong district held discussions with its representatives three days after the agitation began.
During the talks, the officials acknowledged the concerns raised by the community and assured that arrangements would be made to ensure the proper delivery and receipt of essential food supplies.
The officials also said the proposed arrangement represented the maximum assistance that the district administration could provide under the prevailing circumstances and appealed to the committee to withdraw the blockade.
Following the assurances, the Kuki CSO Working Committee decided to suspend the agitation.
However, the committee warned that the blockade could be reinstated in a more stringent form if the district administration failed to implement the commitments made during the discussions.
The committee said any further course of action would depend on whether the assurances provided by the authorities were fulfilled.
