After the gunfight, security forces rushed to the area to track and arrest the militants involved.

Imphal: Central security forces and state police, in the aftermath of a gunfight between two groups, carried out an anti-insurgency operation and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives in Manipurโ€™s Kangpokpi district on Thursday, officials said on Friday.

During the counter-insurgency operation, the joint team busted a militant camp at Songlung village under Kangchup police station in Kangpokpi district.

The joint team seized the following items during the operation:
(i) one Heckler & Koch G3 rifle with magazine;
(ii) two bolt-action rifles;
(iii) four pull-mechanism rifles;
(iv) one improvised mortar;
(v) two each of No. 36 hand grenades, arming rings and detonators;
(vi) two G3 live rounds; and
(vii) one handheld radio set.

Officials said the operation was launched following a gun battle between two underground groups belonging to the Naga and Kuki communities at around 7.40 am on Thursday at Kharam Vaiphei village in the Sadar Hills area of Kangpokpi district.

After the gunfight, security forces rushed to the area to track and arrest the militants involved.

The recovered items were later handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
