Imphal: Government authorities and leaders of Joujangtek village in Manipur’s Noney district have reached an agreement to lift the indefinite blockade on the Old Cachar Road linking Jiribam with National Highway 37 after officials assured security for local farmers.
The blockade, imposed on June 19, followed an attack a day earlier in which unidentified armed men opened fire on farmers working in fields near Joujangtek village. A resident, identified as Nohjang Haokip, sustained bullet injuries to his arm and chest.
The agreement was reached during talks involving Noney Superintendent of Police Divya Rajput, Khoupum Officer-in-Charge Md. Salauddin, Longmai Sub-Divisional Officer Ziaur Rahman and leaders of Joujangtek village.
Under the agreement, security forces will provide protection to villagers during agricultural activities and ensure the uninterrupted movement of essential commodities along the route.
Both sides agreed that the terms would cease to apply if the village faces any future attacks, threats or intimidation.
The Old Cachar Road is a key route connecting Jiribam with NH-37 and serves as an important supply corridor.
