The proposed ‘White Alert’ and ‘Black Day’ observation of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur state branch has been withdrawn after a high powered meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

This was stated in a press release.

The meeting was chaired by the union home minister Amit Shah and was attended by national leaders of the IMA.

In the meeting the home minister and union health minister acknowledged and praised IMA and the medical community for their great efforts and sacrifice during these testing times, the release signed by president Dr Shyamkumar Laishram of IMA-Manipur branch and its state secretary Dr Nelson Loitongbam said.

As per the release, Amit Shah said he was very much aware and concerned about this issue.

He has assured that the Central Government will take all necessary steps and come out shortly with relevant legislation to address the safety and dignity of doctors and healthcare workers.

He also appealed to the IMA leadership to believe in the government and defer the symbolic protest, it added.

Considering the immediate high level response of the government and solid assurance given by the union home minister himself, it was decided to withdraw the ‘White Alert’ protest scheduled for April 22 evening and Black Day on April 23, it said.

The IMA, Manipur branch also thanked its entire sister organizations, stakeholders and NGOs etc for coming out in full support of this rightful protest, it added.
