Imphal: Two Assam Rifles personnel were martyred, and several others sustained injuries on Monday following a militant ambush near Nungshangkong in Ukhrul district, under the jurisdiction of Ukhrul Police Station.
The Government of Manipur strongly condemned the attack and assured that search operations are underway to apprehend the culprits.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, and Home Minister Govindas Khonthoujam expressed profound grief and conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
The Governor took to social media to mourn the “tragic loss of two brave Assam Rifles personnel,” asserting that such dastardly acts have no place in society and cannot weaken the collective resolve to uphold security.
Echoing these sentiments, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh declared that the state government “will not remain a mute spectator” and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice swiftly.
Home Minister Govindas Khonthoujam also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and reiterated the state’s steadfast commitment to maintaining law and order.
State leaders have urged the public to stand together to honour the ultimate sacrifice of the soldiers and reaffirm their shared commitment to restoring lasting peace, security, and harmony across Manipur.
The Indian security forces held the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland (also called the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim), the political wing of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), responsible for the attack.
However, the outfit has categorically denied any involvement in the July 6 ambush.
