Imphal: In a major push for educational rehabilitation, the Manipur Government on Thursday, May 14, 2026, disbursed a total of Rs 75,40,000 in one-time financial assistance to 754 Internally Displaced Students (IDS).

The assistance, amounting to Rs 10,000 each, was provided under the Chief Ministerโ€™s College Students Rehabilitation Scheme (CMCSRS).

The distribution took place at Imphal College, Kwakeithel, during a function attended by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh as the chief guest.

The funds were transferred directly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiariesโ€™ bank accounts.

Speaking at the programme held at Jubilee Hall, CM Singh reiterated the governmentโ€™s commitment to supporting displaced students so they can continue their education, stating, โ€œI am confident that this assistance will provide meaningful relief and encourage the students to pursue their academic aspirations with determination and hope.โ€

Official data indicates that over 58,800 people remain displaced due to the ongoing ethnic violence that began in May 2023.

The state government is currently managing the crisis, with 174 relief camps operational and approximately 3,000 prefabricated houses constructed for rehabilitation, according to reports from March and April 2026.
