During the operation, security forces also seized two tipper trucks allegedly used to transfer and transport the stolen fish boxes from the hijacked vehicle.

Guwahati: Security forces thwarted the hijacking of a truck transporting boxes of iced fish and arrested four members of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) in Imphal West district on December 18.

The operation was launched within hours of the hijacking, which took place earlier the same day on the Maharabiโ€“Pheidinga stretch under the jurisdiction of Sekmai police station. Acting on specific inputs, security personnel tracked the stolen vehicle and successfully recovered the truck along with the entire consignment of iced fish.

Those arrested were identified as Borish Sagolsem (25) of Yairipok Laimanai in Imphal East district, Herojit Sharma (32) from Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, Asem Amar Meitei (20) of Sabal Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, and Md Salman Khan (35) of Yairipok Tulihal in Imphal East district.

During the operation, security forces also seized two tipper trucks allegedly used to transfer and transport the stolen fish boxes from the hijacked vehicle. The drivers of the tipper trucks and a handyman linked to the operation were also detained.

They were identified as Pukhrambam Mukhesh Singh (23) of Torbung Bangla in Bishnupur district, Waikhom Bijen Meitei (31) of Yairipok Nungaipokpi Mamang Leikai in Imphal East district, and Loukrakpam Shitaljit Singh (32) of Yairipok Nungeipokpi Mamang Leikai in Imphal East district.

Security officials said investigations are continuing to determine the broader network involved and to examine possible links to other criminal activities operating in the region.
