The arrested UNLF-P cadres were apprehended during a raid on their hideout in the Chingemeirong area of Imphal West district.

Imphal: Four members of the United National Liberation Front – Pambei (UNLF-P) were arrested from Imphal West district on Sunday following accusations of rape, firing, and assault on civilians, Manipur police said.

The UNLF-P cadres, identified as Thounaojam Gopen Singh (34), Naorem Ningthouremba (25), Arambam Tom Meitei (35), and Laishram Doshnikumar (28), were apprehended during a raid on their hideout in the Chingemeirong area of Imphal West district.

Police recovered a pistol, ammunition, five mobile phones, and cash during the operation. The four accused have been remanded to judicial custody for eight days as investigations continue.

UNLF-P is currently engaged in peace talks with the central and state governments. The group signed a peace pact in New Delhi on November 29, 2023, followed by a reception ceremony at Kangla Fort in Imphal on December 2, 2023.

Over 600 cadres were honored during the ceremony, marking a symbolic commitment to peace.

Founded in 1964, the UNLF has since split into two factions, led by Pambei and Koireng respectively. The Pambei group is the one currently involved in peace negotiations, the Koireng faction continues to operate outside the framework of the agreement.
