Guwahati: Four Kuki civilians, including three women, were killed after armed men allegedly attacked Teikhang Kuki village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, the Kuki Civic Action Committee (KCAC) said on Monday.
In a statement, the KCAC alleged that heavily armed men belonging to Liangmai groups and cadres of the NSCN-IM entered the village, opened fire on residents and set houses on fire.
The committee said one of the women was shot at close range while pleading for her life. It described the incident as targeted violence against Kuki-Zo civilians and sought an immediate, independent, high-level inquiry into the killings.
The KCAC also accused Naga People’s Front (NPF) leader Awangbow Newmai of having financial and logistical links with armed groups allegedly involved in the attack. It alleged that he had provided financial support, arms and ammunition to hostile groups.
The committee demanded a separate investigation into Newmai’s alleged links with armed groups.
The KCAC also criticised Newmai over what it described as recent statements against the Kuki-Zo community and Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
The committee said the attack reflected what it described as a pattern of violence targeting Kuki-Zo women and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
The allegations made by the KCAC could not be independently verified by Northeast Now.
