Guwahati: Two villagers were killed, and two others sustained bullet injuries after suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K allegedly opened fire on N Teikhang Kuki village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday morning.
The attack was reported at around 9.30 am under the T Waichong sub-division, according to local sources. The assailants allegedly fired at residents and torched several houses, prompting villagers to flee the area amid the gunfire.
The deceased were identified as Lamtinthang, who was reportedly shot dead during the attack, and Neichin, the wife of Tongpao.
Seilun suffered a bullet injury to his thigh, while another woman, Nemneichong, was also injured in the firing, the sources said.
According to local accounts, Lamtinthang was killed while his father, Seilun, was shot in the thigh. The injured were reportedly taken for medical treatment.
Several houses were also allegedly set ablaze during the attack, adding to fears among residents in the remote Twilang belt along the IT Road.
The incident comes amid continuing tensions and reports of armed confrontations in the wider Twilang area. The strategically important IT Road corridor has witnessed repeated incidents of firing and attacks on civilian settlements in recent weeks.
The violence has also disrupted movement and affected residents’ access to essential commodities and healthcare in the remote belt.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians living along the IT Road, where villages remain vulnerable to armed clashes and retaliatory violence.
Security arrangements in the area are expected to come under renewed scrutiny as authorities assess the incident and the wider security situation in Kangpokpi.
