Imphal: Following a meeting with government and aided college principals, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the formation of an eight-member committee tasked with improving student discipline and knowledge.
The committee, chaired by Dr Rangiabali Waikhom, Director of University and Higher Education (UHE), will promote a culture of discipline and knowledge acquisition within colleges.

One key initiative will be the mandatory attendance of daily assemblies, including the singing of the National Anthem and the state song. This aims to instil a sense of discipline and patriotism among students.

The committee’s composition includes P Shantikumar Singh, Additional Director (UHE), who serves as the convener. Officials from the committee will be assigned to visit colleges across various districts to monitor student and staff attendance, as well as the conduct of daily assemblies.

These officials will then submit weekly reports to the committee chairperson. College principals will be responsible for providing the necessary data to the assigned officials.

Furthermore, the committee members themselves will conduct surprise visits to colleges to verify attendance and assembly procedures. They will convene twice a month to review reports submitted by different groups and members.
A comprehensive monthly report will then be forwarded to the government.
