Imphal: An active cadre of the proscribed underground outfit Kangleipak Communist Party — Taibanganba (KCP-T) who was allegedly involved in extortion activities was arrested in a search and cordon operation conducted in the southern Kakching district of Manipur on Saturday morning.
In his possession the police found Rs 22,000 cash, four ATM cards, two mobile phones, and some demand letters, the police said on Sunday.

Based on intelligence input from its sources that some armed youths are trying to extort money after serving demand letters, Manipur police assisted by the central forces launched an anti-insurgency campaign at Tejpur Makha Leikai in Kakching District.
The operation concluded with the arrest of the KCP-T cadre later identified as Ningthoujam Ashakumar Meetei alias Abung (33).
He was involved in extortion activities from the public in two districts Thoubal and Kakching, the police said.

The arrested cadres along with the confiscated items were handed over to the Kakching police station for necessary legal proceedings, the police added.
