In order to prevent possible chances of infiltration of the illegal immigrants into Manipur after the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, a state level monitoring committee and a district level monitoring committees have been formed.
The committees would also take steps for creating adequate public awareness in order to effectively counter the situation.
The state level monitoring committee would comprise of Special Secretary (Home) as Chairman, all Deputy Commissioners(DCs) and all Superintendent of Police(SPs) as members.
In the district level monitoring committee, the Deputy Commissioner of the district concerned would be the chairman and SPs, all SDOs, SDPOs, SDCs and OCs of the district would be the members of the Committee.
The Committees may invite representatives of civil society organizations for participation in its proceedings, as and when required.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh made this announcement during a press conference in Imphal on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, Minister for Consumers affairs & Public Distribution Karam Shyam, Chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited Dr Sapam Ranjan, Vice Chairman MIDA O Lukhoi, MLA Th Satyabrata, Chief Secretary Dr Suresh Babu and others attended the press conference.
Talking about the people’s concern over the infiltration of the illegal immigrants in the State, the State Chief Minister said that the State Government is monitoring the situation minutely and is vigilant to check the influx of illegal immigrants into the State.
He mentioned that the State Government has already taken various precautionary measures to check the influx of illegal immigrants into the State.
Police check posts have been opened in border and vulnerable areas of the State.
State police are patrolling the border areas including waterways in Jiribam frequently, he added.
Apart from these, the Government has opened a special check post at Imphal International Airport to check the illegal immigrants.
