Imphal: Security forces on Friday recovered another cache of arms, ammunition and explosives hidden in Dampi Reserve Forest, Churachandpur adjoining Bishnupur of Manipur.

Officials said that an operation was conducted after killing Sapam Ongbi Sophiya (29), a woman farmer by suspected militants who opened gunfire from the higher Dampi Reserve Forest towards the lower Saiton Meitei village in Bishnupur district on November 9.

The joint team during a coordinated operation, launched the offensives against the militants who fled from their hideouts in the forest area.

The joint team recovered one .303 rifle with then live rounds of ammunition, one .22 rifle, two pistols with seven live rounds, two pumpis with 5 rounds, 5 bore cart cases, two tear gas grenades, a smoke grenade, one 2-inch mortar bomb, ten grade 2 explosives and 20 detonators.
The officials added that the recovered items were handed over to the Manipur police for legal formalities.
