Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested five persons for allegedly damaging a truck and destroying its fertiliser consignment at Moirang Patlou under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district.
According to police, locals intercepted a truck travelling from Imphal towards Churachandpur and found contraband items concealed among urea bags. The seized material was subsequently burnt.
The truck, reportedly linked to Agro-Tech Solutions, was carrying around 600 bags of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) from Bihar.
Authorities have initiated action against those involved under the Essential Commodities Act and the Fertilizer (Control) Order.
Four two-wheelers allegedly used in the commission of the offence were also seized.
The arrested persons have been identified as Laishram Avijit Singh (25) of Thamnapokpi village, Khwairakpam Dhaneshwor Singh (25) of Thamnapokpi village, Alex Moirangthem (25) of Ngangkhalawai Awang Leikai, Phairembam Kaijer Singh (36) of Konjengbam Leikai, and Sanabam Chaoba Meitei (48) of Churachandpur Mata Leirak, currently residing at Moirang College Relief Camp in Moirang.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
