A District Youth Convention is being hosted at Barrack Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex in Thoubal district headquarters, about 25 km south of Imphal.

Speaking at the convention, Manipur Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said various youth clubs of the state have a clear vision to mentor youths to the right path.

The District Youth Convention was organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal.

ADC to DC Thoubal, Laishram Radhakanta, noted Economist Prof N Mohendro Singh, resource persons, members and volunteers of NYK Sangathan youth club attended the convention.

Continuing his speech, Minister Radheshyam said that the youths must involve themselves with a sense of voluntarism and sacrificial spirit to work for the welfare of the society.

Stating that the youths are the nation builder, Radheshyam said the government in order to make the youths become self reliant and entrepreneurs are implementing many schemes and projects under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme.

Expressing that to make the government sponsored projects and schemes successful it is important that the schemes be made available to eligible candidates by making the process easily accessible, he said that the scheme provides financial assistance to set up new enterprises.

Reminding that the financial assistance provided by the government through loan is meant to be returned back, he said the people need to know the difference between the grant, loan and subsidy.

Radheshyam who also holds the labour and employment portfolio also urged the concerned officials to organize awareness programmes on various employment schemes.

In life, he said that many issues and problems will be encountered and one must be prepared to face all the challenges with positive attitude adding that education, deeper understanding and skill are the keys to success. Urging the people of the state to unite to work for the progress and development of Manipur, he said that whatever that is available today is the gift of the elders and it is the duty of the youths to safeguard and work for the future generations to come.

Certificates of merit and sports equipments were also distributed.
